What tonight should of been like, by Ji
http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?sh...160797&st=0 Near the end of this particular thread, HM and Typhoon Tip have a very interesting conversation about something called Cross-Equatorial flow and how it can adversely impact the development of snowstorm cyclogenesis over the EUS in the winter, something about what may have caused March 2001 to be such a heartbreaker for Mid Atlantic residents and others in the EUS. Tip and HM could not recall the name of this cross equatorial flow. There is a name for it in meteorological parlance. Us snow weenies will have to include it in our future analyses of developing winter storms over the Eastern US from now on......... I can help you with why that storm failed if you are ever interested... That goes for everyone else, too. hint: there's a sneaking teleconnector not yet defined, or recognized, in the Caribbean. it's origin is probably south of the tropic of cancer. http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?s=...t&p=2649108 -------------------- -------------------- |

Jak488 listed some incredible snow pics on EUSWX. They sure get snow early on in the season and also very late in the season (by northern VA standards).
Most are pics of Bozeman, Montana, except for the last several which are of Banff, Alberta: http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/6546/img0840zj1.jpg Morning of October 6th; first accumulating snowfall of the 2007-08 winter http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/2756/img0856vz6.jpg Bozeman's Bridger mountains in mid-November http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/5916/img0872up0.jpg Downtown Bozeman on a frigid December afternoon http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/3377/img0907xy7.jpg Christmas morning after a heavy Christmas Eve snowfall http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/30/img0916nn3.jpg Mid-January after ten inches of unforecasted snow blanketed the area http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/3486/img0927xl5.jpg Mid-Jan again, after another several inches fell along with extremely high winds, hence the drifts http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/6927/img0929kl6.jpg The driveway http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/7800/img0941xg7.jpg Late January white-out http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/6295/img0942iy1.jpg White-out again http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/2367/img0954de9.jpg Looking towards Bozeman's Spanish Peaks of the Gallatin Range, early Feb http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/4189/img1138sz2.jpg Beautiful mid-April morning http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/4028/img1148xl9.jpg Mid-April again, with the Bridgers in the clouds http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/3353/img1222we1.jpg Snow on my birthday!!! RoyW at EUSWX posted some truly amazing snow related links:
Amazing snow/drifting photos from Kansas http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?sh...p;#entry3729721 Pretty awesome photos from KS. These are from the Pratt and Mullinville areas in the west central part of the state. My hometown has some interesting CNN ireport footage; they got roughly 15-18 inches, an incredible amount for a part of the state where 12+ snows aren't common. Heck, even getting 10 was rare growing up. Pratt and Mullinville are further west and experience that more often. However, they received 24-28 inches or so, which is a lot anywhere in KS, record-setting. I am sad I couldn't be there anymore to see it, but kind of glad I am not shoveling this mess... This image won't post, but it is awesome because the snow almost covers lawn furniture...: http://item.slide.com/r/1/0/i/YDKhceeOmj9G..._5MX1RF1BTo4M9x http://media.kansas.com/smedia/2009/03/28/...ffiliate.80.JPG http://media.kansas.com/smedia/2009/03/28/...ffiliate.80.JPG http://media.kansas.com/smedia/2009/03/28/...ffiliate.80.jpg ---------------------------- -------------------- |
