EUSWX HALL OF SHAME

(Adapted from Midlo's thread over at EUSWX)

http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?showtopic=121384

I moved my EUSWX sig here at 1253am Feb 28 2007.

Using the GFS for guidance based on secondary coastal low formation is like entering a one-legged man in an asskicking contest. This storm is just now coming into the Nam's range, therefore that is the direction I will lean until I start seeing some consistency (if ever). TexasRattler

To get a sense of what accumulated sleet looks like, imagine a big ole pile of tiny little translucent plastic beads. If you put your hands out and shove some of it away, most of it comes right back at you.

As I was shoveling the accumulated sleet, I could run the shovel through the pile horizontally, and it would cut a swath and just fill back in.

It was pretty cool, actually. Never seen anything quite like it. Wet snow will push away because it's "sticky". Cold, dry snow will push away because it's so light. But this stuff, like someone said, is kind of like sand, it has "heft" to it. But think of very, very dry sand. ChantillyWx

Nah you'll be just as pissed off when the next miss happens in your BY. I've been in several feet of LES and still was po'd a week later when the same areas got rain. Snow addiction is snow addiction and it doesn't get slaked. Its not like eating too much and feeling so sick you eat lightly for 10 days. As soon as you're home, you'll have the Jones. weathafella

I honestly think this will change most of us forever. We are of an ilk who hunt 4" snows with a passion. Kinda like a college basketball nut who gets front row seats to the National Championship game and his team wins. I think we will become comfortably numb. WEATHER53

What sucks is the warministas got first round draft picks leaving us without a good blocking defense. MerquryMan

Wow! That's taking benchmark to a whole new level! Ytterbium

Feb 25 Snowstorm: 6 inches!! Hell Yeah, Baby!!

Winter 2006-2007 Snow Totals: 11.5 inches!!!

This is the 2006-2007 Winter Sig as it was on April 17 2007, at approximately 451pm, shortly before I began to modify it for the upcoming summer season over at EUSWX:

We live in the new snow capitol of the Mid Atlantic. If anything, my forecast is pessimistic. Nikolai

Every winter season since 2002-2003, I have had some kind of a sig which grows as the winter progresses.

From now on I will probably "store" my sigs here at ScienceWeather. I'm fairly surprised I have not thought of this idea before, of storing my sigs in this board.

Anyway, the 2006-2007 EUSWX sig will be stored on this page and I will soon begin the process of modification of my actual EUSWX sig, as I do at the end of each winter. This year, winter extended into spring.....

This is my Spring 2007 sig. I decided to store it here just before I begin another gradual modification of it tonight (645pm June 23 2007).

Beginning today, I will gradually reduce my sig line by line. Eventually I'll even take the lower links off the EUSWX page as well, until September or October 2008.

Note to self: This (color="#FF8C00") is an orangish color.

Saved March 13th 2008 sig as of 1208am March 14.

Negative NAO is IMMINENT. Then, Look Out Northeast!!

06z GFS even more intense with low down to 980mb between ACK and the Benchmark should have raised more posts in this thread than it has... I find that interesting - although it is true that these 06 and 18z'ers are a little vagarious at times...

Anyway, with -NAO on-coming it seems the taking lows from PIT-ACY-Benchmark is more likely than previous PIT-ALB-CAR type paths...

H850 closes very deeply under-LI together with rapidly closing H5 over head... Got think a dynamical with this puppy and see it going 39F cold rain, to 33F in parachutes, to 31F nicer snows... .Kind of a Dec 1996 ordeal, you know?

System is moving fast though; but notice it is slowing down as train-wreck in NW Atlantic is well underway.

12z rolling off the presses and it is still steadfast on course for a similar solution, having an intensifying mid level S/W passing through the same lat/lons as previous runs...out to 96 hours so far.Typhoon_Tip

127pm March 14 2008 Sig Backup.....

Jeb's Snow Train Has Been Officially Grounded Until January 2009.

But one thing I am sort of dancing around is that the NAO is no longer "diving", which was critical in the threads original write-up... I mean, there's no crystal ball here. If the whole of the atmosphere permutes its self that way, it's just out to get us - you know? What makes it worse is that there was, and still is, an upper tropospheric warming going on within the PV - so the -NAO was the better fit... This is just unbearably leading down a prim-rose path joke! now that I think about it - wtf

It sucks to be us - what can I say... -Typhoon_Tip

Stay Tuned, -NAO/PNA Ridge Starting To Rise!!

There are reasons to watch this interval of time closer than normal for this type of time range, however...

a) -NAO is beginning to rise, signaling a potential pattern transition related event (archembault)

B) Recent PNA prognosis has a rapid rise during the period in question, taking the index all the way to +1.25

c) 06z/12z ensembles have a 1000mb low with several contours of isobars closed off, along with a moderate deepening in the 500mb level centered between the 23-25th of the month.

a)+B) tends to = c) to begin with, so seeing c) in the ensemble means might be construed as an early heads up... -Typhoon_Tip

For the record (and this is directed at Old Man Winter), even the most amazing severe weather is a pale substitute for the snow you've stolen from me this past winter. Do not think FOR A SECOND that I will accept even a direct hit from a supercell, or hell, even a hurricane and "call it even". You still owe me.... and, no, 3" of slush in late March is not going to cut it! You owe me a winter!! -NJ_Ken
