8:54 P.M. ET 2/21/2005

Tom Moore, Sr. Meteorologist, The Weather Channel

Thunderstorms, many severe, plagued areas from southern Tennessee and northern Mississippi to South Carolina on Monday afternoon and evening. Heavy rain and large hail pounded down on parts of the Atlanta metro area. Thunderstorms activity will wind down overnight.

Meanwhile, Southern California continues to see waves of heavy rain. The risk of rockslides and mudslides will remain. More severe weather may be in store for Tuesday. A couple of tornadoes have already touched down northwest of Sacramento but they were very weak. heavy snow will continue in the higher elevations. Precipitation will move eastward into southern Utah and arizona on Tuesday.

Parts of Maine are digging out from almost a foot of snow. Portland received 10 inches. Snow continues to taper off.
