An area of light to moderate (occasionally heavy) snow is pushing eastward from Kansas and southeastern Nebraska into southern Iowa and northern Missouri this afternoon. Generally speaking, 3 to 5 inches are forecast through tonight in these areas. Around Kansas City, however, the snow may be somewhat heavier, and heavy snow warnings remain posted there in anticipation of 4 to 7 inches. Farther west, 5 to 8 inches are forecast for central Kansas where winter storm warnings have been issued (valid until 9 p.m.)

Residents of Chicago can look forward to a slow commute tomorrow morning as the snow is expected to arrive there late tonight, dropping an inch or two by sunrise tomorrow.

Elsewhere, light snow is moving from eastern South Dakota and northeast Nebraska across southern Minnesota this afternoon. In southern Kansas, freezing rain and sleet around Wichita is expected to change to light snow before ending late this afternoon or evening.
