Bernard, Meteorologist, The Weather Channel Winter weather warnings are limited to the West today, while in the South, there's a risk of isolated severe thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening. [p] Winter storm/heavy snow warnings remain posted for the northern Sierras and northeastern California today, generally for elevations above 5000 feet, where 12-18 inches of snow could fall by noon tomorrow. Winter storm/heavy snow warnings have also been issued for Utah's Wasatch Mountains and several ranges in far western Wyoming. Twelve to 18 inches of snow could pile up in the Wasatch by midday tomorrow. Farther north, winter storm warnings are in effect for a small portion of southwest Montana above 6000 feet where rain is forecast to change to snow. A half foot or more of fresh powder could accumulate by tomorrow morning. This snowy weather in the West is occuring along and ahead of a Pacific cold front pressing eastward and southward. [p] In the South, another cold front may trigger isolated severe thunderstorms late today and tonight in Arkansas, Louisiana and eastern Texas. Meanwhile, in the Upper Midwest, some areas of light sleet and freezing rain or drizzle may plague portions of northern Wisconsin and lower Michigan from late today through tonight.
