Tropics are tranquil

7:47 p.m. ET ET Sat.,Oct.30,2004

James Wilson, Meteorologist, The Weather Channel

The Atlantic and Pacific Basins remain quiet. The cluster of thunderstorms that blossomed yesterday associated with a westward moving tropical wave south of Jamaica and Haiti have diminished significantly. Strong subsidence continues to reside over the Gulf of Mexico as high pressure rules.

Even the western Pacific Basin is quiet for a change after a busy typhoon season for Taiwan, Phillipines, and Japan.
