Typhoon Muifa strengthens

3:30 p.m. ET ET Wed.,Nov.17,2004

Kevin Roth, Senior Meteorologist, The Weather Channel

Typhoon Muifa came to a full stop east of the Philippines over the last 24 hours. A slow westward drift is expected to begin later today or tonight. While Muifa is spinning east of Manilla it has been gathering some strength, top winds are now up to 105 mph. Some slight further strengthening is possible before it makes landfall Thursday. The typhoon could spend up to 24 hours cross the Philippines bringing gusty winds and heavy rainfall to the islands. A weakened Muifa is then forecast to make a move toward Vietnam.

The Atlantic and eastern Pacific Basins remain quiet.
