Muifa has been downgraded to a tropical storm with winds near 70 mph but continues to drift very slowly to the southwest near the Philippines. This is very bad news for the island chain as flooding and mudslides have already resulted from the copious amounts of rain that has already fallen. There is no doubt that large and powerful waves have been battering the eastern coast of the northern Philippines. Unfortunately, three deaths have been associated with Muifa and 1000 people have been displaced from their homes. The system will continue to weaken over the next 5 days as it heads towards southern Vietnam.

The Atlantic and eastern Pacific Basins remain quiet.
