Nanmadol made landfall near "Cabanatuan" on Luzon island in the Philippines during the evening hours local time on Thursday. The recent flooding before Nanmadol and now with the landfall of the super typhoon has created a horrible situation for the people of the northern Philippines. Days of heavy rain have resulted in life-threatening flooding along with mudslides, rockslides, and wooden logslides. The mighty winds of Nanmadol have destoyed hundreds of homes. The first news reports out of Luzon island indicate that more than 400 people have been killed and even more are missing. In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Otto has been downgraded to a weak low pressure system. It will continue to weaken as it drifts slowly to the south.
