Jeb
Clipper to bring major changes to U.S. 6:33 P.M. ET 12/11/2004 James Wilson, Meteorologist, The Weather Channel A deepening low-pressure system and potent cold front will rake the nation from the northern Rockies to the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley over the next 24 hours. Strong and potentially damaging northwest winds in the wake of the front will shift from Montana and Wyoming to the northern Plains tonight and into the northern Mississippi River Valley and western Great Lakes on Sunday. Gusts could reach to between 60 and 70 mph in eastern Montana, central Wyoming and the Black Hills into tonight. Gusts could reach between 50 and 55 mph from the Dakotas to Wisconsin and western Michigan as the storm heads eastward Sunday. By late Sunday, northwest winds could produce 20 to 25 foot waves on Lake Superior and water piling up along the south shore will cause coastal flooding. Snow will develop tonight and Sunday from eastern North Dakota to northern Michigan. Less than an inch of snow coupled with strong winds could produce blizzard conditions in the Red River Valley on the North Dakota-Minnesota line by Sunday morning. Ahead of the storm, snowfall will be in the 2-to-8-inch range across northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan Sunday. The lake-effect snow machine will take over across Upper Michigan and northernmost Wisconsin by Sunday evening and continue through Monday with locally over a foot of additional accumulation possible. As the low and cold front track into the Northeast Monday, lake-effect snow and strong winds will crank up steadily eastward over western Lower Michigan, northern Indiana, northeast Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, southwest New York and central Upstate New York.
