Tropics dormant

John Desjardins, Senior Meteorologist, The Weather Channel

Tropical Storm Muifa has had quite a history. It brought heavy rain to the Philippines last week and is now passing just south of Vietnam. Sustained winds are at 45 mph and the storm is expected to maintain its strength before crossing across Thailand within the next 48 hours. Once the storm moves back over open water, some slight strengthening is possible over the weekend.

Elsewhere, the Atlantic and Pacific tropical basins are tranquil and no tropical activity is expected.
