Now Tropical Depression Muifa has had quite a history. It brought heavy rain to the Philippines last week, then passed just south of Vietnam and is now heading from the Gulf of Thailand into the Andaman Sea and the southern Bay of Bengal. Sustained winds are at 35 mph and the storm is expected to regain tropical storm strength as it heads for India. Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Bento with 115-mph winds is south of Diego Garcia in the central Indian Ocean and is heading southward.

Elsewhere, the Atlantic and Pacific tropical basins are tranquil and no tropical activity is expected.
